 El australiano Taj Burrow se proclamó la semana pasada el vencedor del Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay al vencer en la final al ocho veces campeón del mundo Kelly Slater. Esta es la segunda victoria del año del australiano, que se sitúa en la segunda posición del ranking ASP.

Slater, que ganó este evento en 1996, 2003 y 2005, declaró sentirse cansado física y anímicamente después del gran esfuerzo que le supuso llegar hasta la final.
“Estoy un poco frustrado” dijo Slater, “creo que he solo he ganado una de las cinco, o dos de las seis finales en las que he estado últimamente, lo que es frustrante, pero seguro que le da a la gente algo de qué hablar… En el agua pensaba: a lo mejor un segundo puesto me da la vida más que si ganase, probablemente me motive más para la próxima…”

Slater pasa del sexto puesto al cuarto del ranking ASP , y ahora puede ser considerado ya una amenaza de cara a conseguir el título mundial.
