En dicha región austriaca también han tenido una temporada extraña, y sus condiciones de nieve no mejoraron hasta la primavera. Aun así tuvieron que acortar el recorrido frente a pasadas ediciones. A pesar de que por esas fechas ya había llegado el veranillo a las ciudades, se acercaron cerca de 270 entusiastas del freeride a celebrar el fin de la temporada a la estación de Stuben.

El organizador, Paul Gruber, se había planteado varias metas, con la premisa de que en el evento primase la calidad a la cantidad: un encuentro de leyendas del snowboard, reunir el máximo número de participantes posible –tantos como para batir un Guinnes- y que todos y cada uno de los asistentes viviesen una experiencia inolvidable.

El record Guiness no se logró, pero hay que decir que reunir 270 participantes como lograron tampoco es fácil! Sí que asistieron varias leyendas del snowboard como los suizos Micky Früh, Werner Früh, el neocelandés Dani Kiwi Meier, el japonés Ishi Shigeru, el alemán Peter König, el francés Serge Dupraz, el austriaco Martin Freinademetz y por supuesto el mismo organizador que, modestamente, dijo que todos los participantes en el evento eran leyendas.

El noche del viernes los participantes se reunieron para dar comienzo al evento con unos cuantos conciertos. El sábado, con 23 graditos y cielos totalmente despejados, comenzaría el evento en si. Tras unas bajadas de calentamiento por las pistas de la estación, treinta mujeres, cuarenta oldschoolers y doscientos participantes más se dieron cita en el punto de partida.

Después de ciertas deliberariones se decidió el comienzo del descenso. Los cuerenta oldschoolers bajaron primero, equipados con material de época en plan Crazy Bananas, Chilly Willys, Burton Cruzers, Burton Elites, Fanatics, Sims… y demás tablas legendarias. Imaginaros el colorido del descenso si los participantes iban vestidos también con las típicas ropas fluorescentes de la época…Algunos de ellos se llevaron aplausos de los asistentes al comenzar el descenso con unos estilosos Rocket Airs dignos de semejante revival. Finalmente, el primero en terminar el descenso de 560 metros de desnivel fue el que fue el primer campeón europeo de halpipe, el suizo Micky Früh con su tabla Sims Ultimate.

Las chicas y el resto de participantes empezaron cinco minutes después, en un clima de alegría total, felices de compartir la última bajada de la temporada juntos.
