Ayer se celebraba el segundo día del campeonato mundial Pantin Classic donde los surfistas nacionales han dejado el listón bien alto. Gony Zubizarreta del equipo Movistar, Indar Uanue de Arnette, Hodei Collazo y Pablo Gutiérrez han sido clasificados tras eliminar a surfistas de la talla de Tom Curren.
El director de competición junto con la ASP (asociación de Surfistas Profesionales) decidió a primera hora de la mañana arrancar con el campeonato y continuar con la segunda ronda de los chicos a las 9am. El fuerte viento terrenal y la marea baja han dejado a los riders unas condiciones difíciles para surfear durante casi todo el día de hoy.
Nada más concluir la segunda ronda de chicos, las chicas han entrado al agua para intentar acabar con la segunda ronda del Cabreiroa Surfing Girls a última hora de esta edición.
Rodrigo Dornelles de Brazil consiguió la mejor ola del día que puntuó 8.90 de un posible 10. Dornelles necesitaba una alta puntuación para poder avanzar a la ronda 3.
“Estaba observando a los chicos al principio de la manda cuando apareció una buena ola de izquierdas, así que la cogí y salió todo bien, tuve mucha suerte. Como sabía que necesitaba una buena puntuación me he arriesgado y he dado todo de mi mismo. Mis tablas van muy bien en este momento y creo que han sido de gran ayuda"- comentaba Rodrigo Dornelles.
El surfista vigués Gony Zubizarreta, del equipo Movistar, saltó al mar a las 14.00 horas, y se ha visto las caras con su buen amigo Jonathan González de Canarias, Alejo Muniz de Brasil y Brendon Gibbens de Sudáfrica. A pesar de estar con tres surfistas de excepción, Gony consiguió coger cinco olas, y tuvo dos muy buenas puntuaciones que le dieron el pase a la siguiente ronda.

No ha tenido tanta suerte su amigo Jonathan González, que ha quedado tercero en la manga y quien ha comentado: “No pasa nada, los surfistas que nos han tocado en la manga eran muy buenos, y me alegro mucho de que haya pasado Gony”.
Gony salía del agua con la cara radiante de alegría: “El viento me frenaba mucho y no podía coger velocidad, ha sido una manga muy apurada porque el nivel este año está realmente complicado, pero he conseguido puntuar dos olas muy buenas y eso me ha dado el pase a la siguiente ronda. Ahora empieza lo verdaderamente emocionante porque hay que ir pasando ronda a ronda”.
Además Gony hacía referencia a la playa de Pantín como una de las más divertidas: “Hoy las olas son diferentes, hay una ola derecha muy buena que da mucho juego para hacer distintas maniobras”, comentaba nada más salir del agua.
El surfista de Zarautz, Indar Unanue, ha conseguido clasificarse para la siguiente ronda en la última manga del día. Heitor Alves, de Brasil; Tom Curren y Brad Ettinger de Estados Unidos, se lo han puesto difícil a Indar Unanue, quien a pesar de todo, ha conseguido puntuar dos olas muy buenas que le han dado el pase a la siguiente fase.

Indar Unanue se ha mostrado realmente ilusionado con esta inesperada victoria, ya que se batía contra grandes nombres del surf mundial:
“Cuando he visto que en mi manga estaba Tom Curren (USA), he pensado que lo tenía realmente difícil, ya que competir con un surfista tres veces Campeón del Mundo, es además de muy difícil, un lujo. Para todos Tom Curren es una leyenda del surf. Digamos que le consideramos como el hombre que cambió este deporte. Haber ganado hoy a un figura como él, nunca lo olvidaré. Me siento muy contento y motivado para la próxima ronda”.
Tan sólo cuatro surfistas nacionales han conseguido clasificarse para las siguientes rondas: Hodei Collazo (P. Vasco), Pablo Gutiérrez (Cantabria), Gony Zubizarreta (Galicia) e Indar Unanue (P. Vasco). No han corrido la misma suerte Markos San Segundo, Aramburu o Jonathan Gonzalez que han quedado fuera de evento al ser eliminados de su manga.|
