El Rip Curl Groms Search, segunda parada del Circuito Cántabro de Surf sub-14 y sub-16, se desarrolló en la playa de Valdearenas (Liencres, Piélagos) este fin de semana con organización de la Federación Cántabra de Surf y la Escuela de Surf Sardinero.
La competición, prevista para dar comienzo durante la jornada del sábado, hubo de aplazar su comienzo al domingo debido a las condiciones marítimas reinantes, insuficientes en El Sardinero y desordenadas en Liencres.

En chicos Sub-12, gran actuación del andaluz Javi Aragón “Mini Quillo” que, en una reñida final, marcó la diferencia con la espectacular ejecución de un perfecto reentry frontside en una de las olas más grandes de la serie. Por último, destacar la victoria del guipuzcoano Alex Iriondo que se proclamó, con tan solo 14 años, vencedor en la categoría sub-16, dejando constancia de la calidad que atesora. El santanderino Marcelino Botín, sin demasiada suerte en la elección de sus olas, resultó cuarto.
Con tres pruebas en España el Rip Curl Groms Search conforma un circuito de categorías inferiores (sub-16, sub-14 y sub-12) que se simultanea en Europa, Brasil, Australia, Indonesia, Sudáfrica, Nueva Zelanda y Estados Unidos. La ronda europea tendrá su colofón final los días 5 y 6 de octubre en la playa portuguesa de Peniche, cuyos ganadores obtendrán plaza para la final mundial que se celebrará en Bells Beach (Australia).
