El australiano de 25 años, Harley Ingleby, se proclamó el pasado 31 de julio vencedor la primera de las dos pruebas del World Longboard Tour celebrada en las exóticas aguas de la localidad japonesa de Long Beach de Tahara Aichi.
Ingleby ha ganado al hawaiano Duane de Soto, de 32 años, después de una larga jornada de competición en la finalísima con un registro de 14,75 frente al 11,75 de su rival. El campeón mundial del 2007, el brasileño Phil Rajzman, de 27 años, ha sido el tercer clasificado.

“És la mejor sensación del mundo. Ha sido impresionante. Estoy conmocionado, no sé ni qué decir”, ha declarado el campeón. En semifinales, Duane Soto ganó a su compatriota de Hawai Bonga Perkings (15,60 – 12,65) mientras que Ingleby marcó una muy buena puntuación (16,50) ante el tercer clasificado Phil Rajzman (13,50). El francés del equipo Oxbow Antoine Delpero cayó sorprendentemente en cuartos de final tras un exitoso inicio en la primera jornada de este campeonato del mundo de longboard.
El ranking no es el definitivo, ya que está previsto que se dispute la segunda y etapa final del World Longboard Tour que tendrá lugar en la isla mágica de Chaaya (Maldivas) del 26 al 31 de octubre del 2009. De los resultados de esta segunda prueba se determinará el campeón del mundo de esta competición anual de surf.
Este año, los organizadores del acontecimiento han decidido sustituir el anterior escenario del 2008, Anglet y Sant Clemente (Francia), por destinaciones más exóticas como Japón y las Maldivas.
