“Si yo fuese Joel, estaría deseando mi muerte ahora mismo”, declaró Hobgood. “Honestamente, no sé todavía cómo ha ocurrido. Algunas cosas simplemente tienen que pasar.”
A pesar de abrir la final con un casi perfecto 9,93, Hobgood estaba por detrás de Parkinson por 5,90 puntos, y con el final aproximándose (a falta de quince segundos) Hobgood logró pillar una pequeña ola que le valió un 8,57, suficiente como para ganar finalmente.

“Tanto yo como Joel estábamos buscando pillar la última ola, y realmente cuando el pilló la suya no pensaba que hubiese ninguna más detrás… pero escuche unos silbidos y me di cuenta de que venía otra justo detrás. Sabía que era mi última oportunidad…así que remé lo más fuerte que pude para poder pillarla.”
Con esta victoría Hobgood alcanza la sexta plaza del ranking ASP de la presente temporada, a falta de dos campeonatos más.
